Quick Update

The work I did this summer for Road Warrior Sports is finally on display! You can check out the website here. Most of the images were taken and/or edited by me. I’m so excited for Larry and the group and wish them all the best. Not only is the trailer drool-worthy (check out the lines on that baby!), but it’s so functional for those that live active, multi-faceted lives.

Don’t let me do all the talking though, click around on the site and read all about it.

Meet Carina

*Cue collective “awww”* What a cutie, right? Carina is the daughter of one of the graduate students in the research lab I work for. I met her at the departmental picnic this summer and I was in love. I mean, look at those eyes! Who could resist falling for someone with eyes like that?
It’s been awhile since I’ve posted and these photos were taken near the end of the summer. We had a beautiful, warm day to work with and Carina was a super model. She didn’t fuss at all and loved the camera. I think she was pretty interested in the shutter noises.

The ‘serious baby’ look is something that I find adorable. There’s just something so cute about their little faces looking like they’ve got some deep thoughts brewing. Perhaps it’s the irony that gets me. But who knows–with the genes this girly got, she’s definitely going to be a bright one. Either way, a healthy dose of smiles is always good though, too.

Full Blown

Fall, despite the weirdly warm weather, is here. Eli and I celebrated our 2 year this weekend and decided to take advantage of the beautiful arboretum scenes while the day was oddly warm. We wandered around with both of the boyscameras and had a blast hunting. The most-perfect-est day ever ended with a delicious meal at Bluephies complete with a perfectly spicy bloody mary, chocolate cake, and freaking-awesome-food. If you haven’t been, go! :)

Shooting in the woods was just perfect. There was that dreamy, soft (and EVEN) lighting that I LOVE, with just enough variation to make it interesting. Although Eli kept joking that “even I can take good pictures with your cameras!” he’s totally going to be competition in the near future. ;) Gotta keep my eye on him…

This one right above (the abstract) is one he says was an accident. Maybe I’m biased, but I think it’s a pretty happy one. We did, of course, take some cutesy engagement-type shots. I’m a little sad that photos from my most recent engagement shoot can’t be posted out of respect for privacy, so we set up my gorilla-pod as shown below to make up for those mystery shots. As a side note: I have had that thing for 5 or so years and this is the FIRST time I’ve ever used it the way it’s meant to be used. Ever. Although it came in handy this time, I don’t know that it’s been worth the cost (yet).

That necklace was a recent gift from Eli made by the talented Natalie Tischler at Ornamental Things. I jokingly took a few photos and called it my ‘ring,’ but I actually liked the way this one turned out.

After we came up out of the trails we went into the orchard part of the Arb. GREAT leaf piles for anyone that’s looking to roll/jump around!

Happy fall!

Fall is Creeping Up!

Right before school started last week, my second soul-mate and I went on a chauffeured photo shoot. The chauffeur was a very reluctant brother-of-hers that had lost a coin flip and had to come along. I’m so blessed to have such photogenic friends. Above is the brother, Cody Earl, and below is my best friend and partner, Marley/Mars/Marmar/Festie. Yes, you are allowed to envy those eyes. I sure do.

Oh, and you can also envy that she still manages to look gorgeous when laughing whole-heartedly. Seriously. Who can do that?!

Although my last post was all about how summer was still around, looking back through the photos that I took at Ski-Hi orchards make me feel as though it’s already fall! The varying Wisconsin weather has also graced me with a few beautiful fall-feeling mornings, and I honestly can say I was angry with the weather-gods when it was too warm for jeans today. Thank goodness I had these photos to tide me over. My fingers are crossed that summer soon slips away so I can welcome my (second) favorite season!

The deserted grounds were such a fun place for photos. Lots of interesting structures, open areas, and pretty things for photos. Like this smiley-face apple arrangement which I SWEAR I didn’t set up. No sarcasm!

Or this awesome barn-like building with metal (aluminum??) siding. Such great patterns and colors. I spent a long time exploring that thing..but I’ll just put one shot here. Ahhh, I geek out..but I’m not an impartial judge.

The two siblings were also a whole lot of fun to photograph. Cody Earl was a willing participant in photos, and when Marley wasn’t curled up on the ground getting a shot, she managed to be pretty great.

And aside from their shenanigans there were plenty of other things to photograph, too. I can’t wait to visit Ski-Hi again and go apple picking this season. I’ve also been told that Ski-Hi’s donuts and snacks are delicious-ness worth traveling for, and I can personally say that their cider is dee-lish. Wow-o. I cannot WAIT for it to get cold(er)!

It’s Still Summer

And I have the photos to prove it!

Yes, there have been some serious-summer-actions going on this weekend. Six of us–five runners and a photog/girlfriend–made a day trip up to Devil’s Lake State Park to climb/hike, swim, grill, and run. Well, they ran and I prepared the grill/napped on the picnic table. :)

Our climb/hike began with a short walk down the train tracks to get to our launch site. This cutie (in the blue) was walking down the tracks and the guys, true to monkey-see-monkey-do (where the grown-up boys are the monkeys), hopped on the rails to test their balancing skills. As the little one walked by me, he asked me to stop taking photos until he was ready. The weight of keys in his hand really made it difficult, he told me!

I’ve always believed that the climbing at D-lake was the best part. These guys definitely agreed–we hardly ‘hiked’ at all and spend most of our time scampering around on the rocks to find places to climb. Like I said: monkeys.

Eventually, we had to book it back down through the wooded trail. The guys wanted some water time before their run. After a calf/arm workout for me (I do not have leg-muscles of steel, like these guys), I was more than happy to spend some time in the lake.

After that, we had our run/nap time and then re-united for some noms. Our friend Brill found this great ‘just light the bag!’ thing of coals in the grocery store, so I had an easy time prepping the grill (with the help of the bf, of course). Brats, burgers, snacks galore, with watermelon to boot…it was very much a summer meal.

Ahh, what a great day. Both cameras made it up (and down!) the hike safely, and Elliot (the bf) and I both got some great shots! I’m really excited that I might have a second shooter blooming. :) Here are a few more to wrap up the post. Lots of portraits, but what do you expect?? We like people!

Whew! And that sums up this super-long photo post. Hope you enjoyed! I certainly did.

Whew! What a Week!

So I just got back from Bozeman, MT (the most BEAUTIFUL city in the US) and I’m buried under the thousands of photos I took while I was there. Sadly, almost zero of these photos were taken for fun and somehow most of the beautiful scenes are saved in my head and not on my hard drive. A shame. So what, you may ask, was I doing? Well…

There’s a theme to all the photos I took. Mainly, that each one of them has at least some part of that nifty trailer in it. This is because I spent the last week working with Larry Brown, owner of Road Warrior Sports LLC, to create images for their new website. Even though I haven’t even had a chance to review, let alone edit, most of the photos, I have to share!

With such a good lookin’ trailer, it wasn’t hard to grab nice ‘portrait’ shots. The in-action ones were a little trickier. I had a lot of fun running around Montana asking some pretty friendly strangers to pose for photos. Some nice fishers helped us with shots on the Madison River…

These two were so sweet–the woman had the cutest little fish earrings that she wore for their trip. The hills (mountains?) surrounding the Madison were stunning–I wish we had been around for some evening shots. We were lucky with weather the whole week–clear, blue skies the entire time (not to mention humid-less days with crisp, cool mornings and evenings; it was heaven).

What a fantastic trip. It was so much fun to see Bozeman (my future home) and spend some time with the Browns. Oh yes, I didn’t mention–the Browns, some of whom are show below, are friends–their daughter and I have been friends since my first time living in Wisconsin back in ’98 (?).

This dog shown above is Henry. He’s a goldendoodle and he is HUGE. I mean truly massive–the size of…a small pony (the size thing isn’t as obvious in the photo above). He’s also the nicest pup around (or the most useless guard dog, depending on how you look at it).
Well, that’s all I’ll post for now–there are just too many to choose from! Psst–look at those mountains. Beautiful, right? I’m going to keep my fingers crossed and eyes open for some sort of post-bac or grad-program out West. I’m totally hooked on the cool, dry summer thing and can’t begin to describe how delicious the snow-cast sounds. I’m already planning a trip in January.

Meet Pete

He’s going to be a senior, and he’s my stepbrother. Already, I feel like I hardly know him (where did this grown-up version come from??). Peter has become incredibly patient, works well with others, and has a plethora of good ideas hidden under his hat that he can tactfully slip out (or not, if the situation is tense) for the win (FTW!). I know this because despite my frustration with our shoot (time crunches, harsh lighting, and rising temperatures…), Pete remained composed. His willingness to pose and move around as the lighting changed helped tremendously. What a guy! Thanks for a great shoot, PB. Great luck with your applications–my fingers are crossed that you’ll soon be a Badger.
